It’s New Year’s Eve and it’s time for my personal #BestSongsOf2022 list!
Ten songs from ten different artists, listed from number 10 to number 1.
Let’s start!
The 1975 - I'm In Love With You
One of the recent hits from a band that seems to be everywhere right now. A quality uplifting tune that sounds more like summer than winter, but whatever...
Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds - Pretty Boy
The Chief is back. New song out today, featuring an unmistakable riff from guitar god Johnny Marr.
CD Ghost - Nowhere
The video thumbnail intrigued me and I discovered a well-crafted synthpop track. Keep an eye on these young guys from LA.
The Verve - Slide Away
This is the second-best song named 'Slide Away' and performed by a British band in the early '90s. A phenomenal tune penned by Ashcroft, McCabe & the boys. The first-best was written by Mr. Noel Gallagher from Burnage, Manchester (click!)
Lemolo - High Tide
The best song I've heard in the last week - or month - or maybe more. Ethereal vocals layered above rich, shimmery synths and a percussive piano; hints of London Grammar, Cocteau Twins, Massive Attack, Agnes Obel. Great music can leave you speechless sometimes.
1968 Rolling Stones, restored in glorious 4K quality. (Btw, on an unrelated topic: Måneskin are getting a lot of praise nowadays but there's nothing revolutionary about them: they're just tying to replicate what the Stones did 50 years ago!)
"No no, this sucker is electrical, but I need a nuclear reaction to generate the 1.21 GW..." Starting a new era today...
Stumbleine - Skeksis
